Hey there! I'm Dave Rojas qualified stonemason owner and founder of Rocus Stone Repairs.
I started my stone masonry apprenticeship in 2002 attending TAFE in Perth, Western Australia, here I learned hand carving, retaining walls, tiling, reading & drawing of plans by hand, different types of minerals found in natural stone even scaffolding was a part of the course.
A lot has changed in the industry since I began, with the evolution of technology and affordability to acquire Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines & bridge saws. When i started my apprenticeship only 2 or 3 companies in Perth had the buying power to afford this type of machinery. These days basically every start up and stone shop is decked out with the latest and greatest technology.
An interesting thing happened over the years, the time needed to teach young apprentices has become lower and lower. Meaning the skills acquired became more basic and easy to pick up due to the introduction of technology.
The hand skills that I acquired over 4-5 years had been basically downloaded on to a program that could be used at will by anyone with basic computer skills.
At the end of the day this same scenario has happened across many trades and fields around the world. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, the customer saves on costs but still gets a top quality service!
Our aim at Rocus is to keep the hand skills alive and bring them to you onsite in home.
We'll work with your imagination.
If you need a small touch up or even need to add or remove tops its all possible.
